Sungold: Good Morning
Sungold: Awful accident in our area with errant vehicle breaking through the cable barrier and causing three car collision. It seems the barrier did not do what it is designed to prevent
Sungold: f
Sungold: From what I read about the installation of the cable barrier, it is supposed to prevent vehicles from crossing into the opposing lane

onion_grower: The R-S changed its comments to Facebook. Most newspapers have already done so. It eliminates 90%. The R-S comments were an embarrassment to the California democratic party.
Sungold: New owners at work?
Sungold: You have it figured out Carl, it is best to help with yard work.
Robert: Do Democrats have the ability to be embarrased?
Sungold: New owners take over Wednesday
onion_grower: The comments show the effect on civility of heavy daily pot use.
Robert: I stopped reading the Searchlight several years ago. I only use it for a letter to the editor. They always seem to put mine in print.
onion_grower: The newspaper division of the combined Journal and E.W. Scripps will have to stand on its own. It will no longer be subsidized by the profitable TV and radio station division.
onion_grower: McClatchy is a pure play newspaper company. Stock is $1.80. It was over $5.00 a year ago.
onion_grower: Five media companies have spun off their newspaper divisions. The biggest one is Gannett. The deal will close mid year. Gannett publishes USA today, Reno Gazette Journal and Arizona Republic.
Robert: If they would really print the news they might make a buck.
Sungold: It is not an interesting paper. Can't even get the sports dates correct. Don't follow enough of the local news, or report positive happenings
onion_grower: TV stations are very profitable. Iheart Media, formerly Clear Channel, is the big radio station company, and its stock is about $4.00, down from $10 a few years ago.
onion_grower: I like the channel 7 website, because it covers Chico. As Redding.com shrinks,krcrtv.com can grow.
Robert: Bob Martin delivers the news to me.
onion_grower: I really like the bob batchelor show. KKOH Reno and KGO run it in the middle of the night. I download the podcast to listen at my convenience.
onion_grower: Radio will always have an important place. People listen in their cars. We don't need print newspapers. The internet and TV will meet most people's needs.
Robert: Carl should include a FOX news marquee scrolling on the chat page.
onion_grower: http://johnbatchelorshow.com/podcasts
Sungold: He used to have FOX, didn't he?
Robert: That's true. I forgot he dropped FOX. Then SRN news
SYSTEM: Please welcome ProducerBadBob who just joined the chat.
Sungold: I thought I had see a FOX scroll
ProducerBadBob: WE do have Fox on the main page.
ProducerBadBob: It would be problematic to have it on this page.
onion_grower: Did Redding.com drop their price? It is $5.00/month. WSJ.com is about $10.00
Robert: Have to leave.... C U all L8ter

Red: yep, it's working, just checking
SYSTEM: Please welcome Carl who just joined the chat.
Red: let's see $1.3 million in costs due to delay, around a half million in the yes on B campaign....
Red: and aren't the Unions still appealing the prevailing wage case?
Red: Carl Bott Segway tours?
sflow: lol
Sungold: How are the Segway tours doing down there, are they profitable?
ProducerBadBob: The company closed I was told.
Sungold: How is the cafe and gift shop doing?
SYSTEM: Sungold just signed off.
Red: Really...the Arboretum? No to be a jerk...but let's be honest, I've seen botanical gardens and they are gorgeous...what Turtle Bay has is low water landscaping, it's shrubs and it's ugly...it belongs in front of a strip mall...just my opinion
SYSTEM: Please welcome Sungold who just joined the chat.
Sungold: 80.00 is a bargin, it is the plan we use and the grand kids love going there when they come up
ProducerBadBob: OK Red you are King..what is your plan for TB?
Sungold: However they are teen and pre-teen and are less interested in the offerings out there at this point
Red: What any other business owner would do, develop exhibits that bring the crowds and if i can't get enough business in the door realize I made a poor choice of business and move on. Not force the community into subsidizing me
Sungold: I agree Red, the arboretum leave a lot to be desired. I have not even bought any plants out there. One year, I bought 18 tomato plants from them and most died the first few weeks. I was very disappointed
Red: I would like to see TB flourish and I think it could
Red: But you have to bring the people...
Sungold: I think so too, but they need a lot of help and more volunteers. Even the admin staff that takes care of the yearly dues handle it badly Every year I have an issue with them...makes me crazy.
Red: As an example, my kid asked me if she kid stay home when her school went to TB because, "Dad, I've seen it..."
Sungold: One year they forced every member to come in and pick up their membership card. I went in to pick mine up and no one could find it. I forced them to mail it to me.
Sungold: I can understand that, but many families cannot afford to go there, so the school trips are great for many of the children
Sungold: We support them, and go when we see something we'd like, but it needs more spark. So much of the older stuff like the dam display the kids love is always in need of repair
Red: No the Smithsonian is NOT A PRIVATE institution
Red: an amusement park would bring people
Red: people looking to spend money and stay
Sungold: Those need lots of upkeep....
Red: but they can self support
Red: look at Marine World, it's in Vallejo...a rat hole of a city and it makes money
Red: Like I said, I'd love TB to flourish, but throwing money at a failed business model is not the way in my opinion
Red: As an example, I know how hard Bossetti is working on South Park, but imagine the field at TB
Red: A ball game, down by the river....just spit balling, but I think you get my point
Red: BUILD AN ICE RINK!!! 100 million degrees in Redding, where would you be?
Red: Plus Redding would take to a Minor League Hockey team like a duck in water
Red: lol
ProducerBadBob: Red how big a check do you think that COR writes to TB each year...do you have the specific amount?
Red: They don't Bob
ProducerBadBob: OK...
Red: Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association - 1699 HWY 273, Anderson, CA 96007
Red: That's who they write the check to
sflow: i saw the segways for sale on craiglist
Red: That's a shame...
Sungold: There you go, we just learned how to minimize the homeless population, put them to work doing something, anything!
Sungold: It is my understanding that COR does not subsidize TB
Red: Not directly Sungold
