San Bernardino close to settling bankruptcy, a charter city by the way
Angel:
well not sure about the charter city, maybe not but it's close to being settled, the council voted on their exit plan
Angel:
"Police officers will lose guaranteed raises that, incredibly, were written right into the city charter 60 years ago. The city's retirees will have to pay for what used to be free lifetime healthcare, as part of a deal with the city to fully fund pension payments."
Angel:
Lifetime healthcare, and raises written into a contract 60 years ago
Angel:
Just seems a bit generous?
Jarhead:
but CalPers stayed whole
Angel:
I actually think they should, just my opinion...several people did pay their dues sworn & non sworn and are retired,
Angel:
they have no control over the greed negotiated that ultimately led to their demise
Angel:
I would guess most of the non sworn did not get lifetime medical
Angel:
but some of these cities including Bell were corrupt ...
Sungold:
Lifetime medical is kind of a joke, Once you turn 62? you get social security and you lifetime medical becomes secondary. It gets too expensive each month, I eventually had to give mine up.
Angel:
You don't get social security if you get a pers retirement, unless you worked 10 years in soc security
Angel:
The years I worked prior to Pers were the hardest years I ever worked and because I was young the one I was taken advantage of the most
Sungold:
I got social security once I turned 62, because of my husband
Angel:
I do think lifetime medical is a joke though, I for one don't think the public should pay for it. I think the cities should negotiate dollars earned.....not medical
Sungold:
The medical went up every year until it was so high, it was ridiculous, and it now was my secondary policy. I dropped it and went to Anthem Blue Cross, and it saved us a bunch each month
Angel:
I bet, I don't think the public should be responsible for paying medical ...employees should pay fr and choose a plan that best fits their needs
Sungold:
Lifetime medical is not free
Angel:
You are right .....most agencies I am aware of contribute a fix amount but to pay for full medical, crazy
Angel:
and that was in-leiu of raises
Angel:
that was for sworn only but each city is different
Carl:
Tricare ends at 65 and Medicare begins and costs me an additional 1300 a year. -
Angel:
There is the exception Carl, Military should get medical for life!!
Angel:
Time to run before the thunderstorms! Have a great weekend

are they depressed because they need something else in their lives or are they depressed because they don't want to live anymore ?
Jarhead:
yeah...defeat this bill and force people to suffer just because people like this don't want people to have the freedom to shape their own lives or deaths
Jarhead:
but its not about us and what we want....its about what the person dying wants or needs
