Is the chat always this busy?
ProducerBadBob:
depends on the topic, eddie
ProducerBadBob:
sometimes it gets pretty active
ProducerBadBob:
This is a holiday, we have guest hosts, and so it's a tad quiet.
eddie515:
I'm hurt, there was no mention of my job in the chicken suit.
ProducerBadBob:
ah..your service is noted and appreciated....

Mornin Jar
ProducerBadBob:
Hello Jarhead
eddie515:
The old TRO
ProducerBadBob:
A difference that makes no difference is no difference...
Jarhead:
Morning all
ProducerBadBob:
there is no 100% way to guarantee that there will NEVER be a stray, therefore the range will be closed...
SYSTEM:
Please welcome RTE who just joined the chat.
eddie515:
No such thing as 100%
Erin:
Anyone on here know anything about this issue and want to weigh in?
Jarhead:
city has skin in the game... not an easy answer... the shooting direction could be changed... my father built the road to that range...lol
SYSTEM:
Please welcome Rocket235 who just joined the chat.
eddie515:
I would think that safety is a huge issue on the range, unlike the "Open Range" at Keswick
Rocket235:
If you look at the range on google earth, the rifle range pounts right at the Westside Trail. NOT safe!
RTE:
I think that since the people have moved so close, maybe it's time to move it to the Milville plains. This would aline with Patrick Jones and his plans to build a range.
Jarhead:
shasta county sheriffs do not train there...officially..
Jarhead:
Patrick must be loving this
eddie515:
Saftey should always come first no matter who's range it is
Jarhead:
but the city planners should have thought of that before they issued building permits for those houses
Rocket235:
Who will be responsible when someone gets hurt? It only takes one injury.
RTE:
I think noise would be a good reason. I'm sure that there is some.
Rocket235:
Agreed Jarhead
RTE:
I wonder if McConnell has the mitigation bank that's responcible for the permit?
Erin:
I'm not sure how this stuff goes when something like this is already there and they build around it
RTE:
Or Hawes
Erin:
yet again
eddie515:
If it was just noise, than I don't think there would be an issue
Rocket235:
The problem Erin is what to do now. Houses are built, people live there. Cant go back in time.
eddie515:
They build houses next to big airports
RTE:
They shouldn't allow police haters to live near the range.
Rocket235:
Airports, right. Bt you assume planes wont land in your driveway.
Rocket235:
A neighbor had their garage door replaced by the Range when bullets ricocheted and damaged the door.
eddie515:
Sounds like that could have hurt someone.
Jarhead:
all parties involved are performing daily activities as per issued permits... nothing done illegally..anyone hurt would need to file suit against the city because of the decisions made by city planning and permits
Rocket235:
Not police haters. They worry about their kids getting hit when playing in front yard.
RTE:
I think that they should open the range to the public too.
Erin:
Anything like that happened at any time?
SYSTEM:
Guest just signed off.
Jarhead:
changing firing direction would be a temporary fix and the city should look for the long term fix
Rocket235:
Slugs were found on driveways and front door steps. Ask any parent and even small risk is too high.
eddie515:
Agreed Jarhead
SYSTEM:
Guest just signed off.
ProducerBadBob:
Well, once you shut the range down all the parents have to worry about is the drive-by gang-bangers...
eddie515:
I wouldn't want to be on the board of that NGO. Can you say huge law suit if someone gets hurt!
Rocket235:
City does not want range moved because they save about $35,000 a year having a range to send their officers to that does not require overtime pay since it is so close to town.
eddie515:
NPO
eddie515:
Where does the Sheriffs Dept. practice?
Jarhead:
absolutely Rocket
Jarhead:
indoor range....Niceshot
eddie515:
10-4
Jarhead:
very limited for proper training
Rocket235:
Law enforcement deserve a newer facility to train at, not a 50 + year old dirt lot.
Rocket235:
dirt...
RTE:
I think the public should have a rifle range in Redding
eddie515:
Redding gun club has been around a long while
Jarhead:
we have Redding Gun Club
RTE:
That's indore
RTE:
indoor
Rocket235:
Law enforcement need outdoor facility to practice real life situations
Rocket235:
With mock buildings to simulate building entry, etc.
Jarhead:
agree Rocket
ProducerBadBob:
all about the $$$$
SYSTEM:
Guest just signed off.
Rocket235:
Yes Bob.
eddie515:
Sounds like the range could be doomed.
Rocket235:
And we will see how much $$ will be forked up when, someday, a lawsuit takes place when someones kid riding a bike on Westside trail loses an eye.
eddie515:
As more bikes hit the trails, it's just a matter of time.
Jarhead:
there was NOTHING out there when that first went in.... no established roads...all dirt
SYSTEM:

Rocket235:
Urban sprawl is hard to prevent.
Jarhead:
entire discussion should be with the city...and their attorney... they have caused this issue by issuing permits to build those homes..
CoachBob:
I went there with my dad in the mid 50's. I, for the life of me, don't understand why anyone would purposely MOVE into an area like that. Like Alta Mesa and the ball park. Played ball there with no houses around. Then they built. People moved in and complained about the games. Why buy next to a prob
eddie515:
It's getting harder and harder to find a safe place to target shoot
Rocket235:
I believe it was brought to the city and they said it is a county issue because the range is on county land.
Jarhead:
city owes it to law enforcement to trade some land and make something available
Rocket235:
Agreed Jarhead
Jarhead:
you are right Rocket but we keep going back to the permits should not have been issued to build a residence in that area without impact studies done
SYSTEM:
Please welcome onion_grower who just joined the chat.
ProducerBadBob:
For much of the past 50 years, whatever the Builder's Exchange Wanted...The Builder's Exchange...Got.
Rocket235:
Neighbors were told about the noise, and no issues. No one said it would be possible for bullets to hit the houses.
CoachBob:
That's a very valid point JH. Allow homes to be built? Nonsense
Jarhead:
great comment... realtors and builders should have had some responsibility to disclose...
eddie515:
Disclosure isses!
ProducerBadBob:
$$$
CoachBob:
$$$ is absolutely rightr
Rocket235:
Agreeded Jarhead. City does not want to take any responsibility.
onion_grower:
The range is a valuable piece of property. The groups owning it could buy a new site up against a mountain and sell the existing range for a huge profit.
Jarhead:
agreed Onion... but cleanup would be costly
RTE:
Was his name Poaletti?
Rocket235:
But the amount of lead bullets would require the property owner of the land to clean it up before selling. Looking at MILLIONS of dollars for an environmental clean up.
eddie515:
Land cleanup would be almost imposible
eddie515:
When you look at the map, it is amazing that range is still open. Nobody who shoots guns can defend the safety issue.
eddie515:
And I'm a Police supporter, big time.

indoor range is not an acceptable answer...we already have one and it does not give a suitable training area

not proper training for what law enforcement needs to be prepared for

relocation is the only answer ...long term

Rocket235:
It's the only solution. We can talk about who allowed homes to be built and who was there first till we are blue in the face. It does not correct the current situation. Homes are there and are going to stay.

thanks, at ft pittville with my veteran

comradeann:
roger that
Erin:
hi comrade!!!
Erin:
I miss you ;-)
comradeann:
cities are notorious for poor planning, not enough true visionaries have ever wakked the earth
eddie515:
Not everyone has knowledge of guns and might assume a realtor would disclose any safety issue.
comradeann:
a realtor is derelict in their duty if they don't
eddie515:
What if the police tell them it isn't an issue?
Rocket235:
But the city who approved the zoning was the derelict first
CoachBob:
Personal responsibility: Don't buy a home next to a shooting range. Jeeze
comradeann:
doesnt matter, is a disclosure issue, just like an airport or gravel pit
CoachBob:
Are you saying these folks didn't drive around the neighborhood and see what they might be living next to? I don't understand...
comradeann:
homeowners should have figured it out though, goes to lack of cerebral activity and judgment
Rocket235:
Bob, can't see the range from the neighborhood.
CoachBob:
I agree about disclosure but there's a thing known as "due diligence"
comradeann:
I personally know that everything is not disclosed and most f...ing fairy shrimp are not visible to naked eye
Rocket235:
You would assume bullets would stay on the range. No ballistics courses are given when buying a home.
eddie515:
Or reg legged frogs, thanks for that
CoachBob:
All take care and be safe today. If you're reading this in English....thank a Vet!
eddie515:
Amen
comradeann:
when we lived in palo cedro we heard ricochets close to our place from redding gun club miles away, that was not disclosed and we didnt care
Rocket235:
Until your kid gets hit
CoachBob:
Okay, I'll bite: How did you know it was from the RGClub?
comradeann:
0 incidents
eddie515:
If my kid got hurt we would then talk ballistic
Rocket235:
Only takes one. I wouldn't risk my kids safety.
comradeann:
patrick told us, lay of the land
CoachBob:
When I lived in Palo Cedro there were tons of folk shooting all the time....rural and all
CoachBob:
Well, if Patrick said it...
eddie515:
So let it be written, so let it be done.
CoachBob:
I've had enough of this....all take care.
comradeann:
yeh, we rural "folks" are crazy gun whackos
eddie515:
As you should be
comradeann:
I trust patrick and his knowledge of guns & location of our place in relation to gun ckub
SYSTEM:

Sungold:
Kudos to yet, another police K-9 who did a good job and bite the bad guy good. Great Job!
comradeann:
we are especially crazy at ft pittville, im going go shoot some fairy shrimp if I can find the little bastards
eddie515:
Isn't it funny how the thugs are so afraid of dogs and not the police
Rocket235:
Maybe if the Police bit you...
comradeann:
I would be too, dogs will bite, police rarely shoot
eddie515:
I love you Ann
Sungold:
Sorry, but you are wishful thinking, you cannot see fairy shrimp. County put in a drainage ditch for this area behind our home, which is actually part of our property, Now it is in the city limits, and it drives fish and game nuts that most of us use week wackers back there to keep the weeks out i
eddie515:
Cops don't get to bite you if you run
comradeann:
I love you two, too. you should come to ft pittville
comradeann:
are you guys busy w/mem day obkigations?
Sungold:
K-9's are trained to bite, just too bad they have to treat the bites and guess who pays for it!
comradeann:
spelling, ugh
comradeann:
I have a facsimile of a police canine named Mr Fritz, or doodler to family
eddie515:
We always have things to do on holidays. They really arent "work" holidays
Sungold:
Memorial day obligations? We have our flag out for the third day now, paid our respects, and now plan on a bbq later today, which is not part of the memorial day obligation.
comradeann:
really!!??? you can't see fairy shrimp, boy am I dumb or what? holy crappola I know you cant see the little bastards
eddie515:
How do I know if I'm stepping on one?
comradeann:
we have our flaf at half & my veteran just stopped sprayi g for illegal fairy shrimp
eddie515:
Do you smell shrimp cocktail?
comradeann:
you do 't, you just hope you are:)
comradeann:
if my veteran just sprayed my rosez he is going to end up like the fairy shrimp
Sungold:
Crazy that in summer there is hardly any water in the ditch but it is sprayed by Mosquito abatement. The little shrimp come back in winter when it rains.
comradeann:
the shrimp wake up when they get wet, something like dormancy or hibernation
Sungold:
Takes my husband two hours just to weed wack our ditch both upper and lower levels. City says we should keep the weed down, fish and game want to protect the shrimp. I guess it is OK if our house burns down
comradeann:
if we weed whack we can be fined 2000.
Sungold:
Ah, life gets so confusing, doesn't I think the fire dept would have something to say about that!
comradeann:
this might help explain my less than joyful temperment when speaking of such bullshit
comradeann:
we are not allowed to protect our property have spoken to rfd numerous times
Sungold:
I'd like for them to explain to me how fairy shrimp enhance and participate in the health, safety and welfare of my neighborhood.
comradeann:
life is not confusing at all, common sense has been removed as a criteria for any sensible
comradeann:
conversation or solution
Sungold:
That is not so, I hear public service annoucements all the time on how to prepare your property against fire, It is all there and folks are responsible to do so for the safety of their communities
comradeann:
we cannot, I know this & have the legal expenses to prove it
Sungold:
Live in the county or city your are responsible to keep fire lines and weeds down. I call fire prevention every year for city property along Rancho Road, and they come and clean it up
comradeann:
you do not have property in a conservation bullshit easement do you?
eddie515:
It takes a village to prevent fire
SYSTEM:
Rocket235 just signed off.
Sungold:
The country are less diligent...there is chunk of co. property smack dab in the middle of city property that is farmed with pine trees. I called on it and they tell me there is no recourse for the property owner to be informed. I had to find out who it was and send my own letter. It got cleaned u
comradeann:
I think it takes a fire to prevent an idiot
eddie515:
Ann you are such a profit, I feel your pain
comradeann:
I sent e & b our landline number in ft putt ille if you ever want to come up fs hunting
comradeann:
hahahaha
eddie515:
"At this point, what difference does it make"
comradeann:
good one !!!!!!!!!!
eddie515:
Classic idiot statement
comradeann:
somehow, I dont think its that difficult
comradeann:
you two have a wonderful day!
eddie515:
It's not, but we should do a study
eddie515:
Oh, we will, always fun
comradeann:
yes, the govt should pay for, maybe 5 mil, think thats enough?
eddie515:
Bye kids, play nice
