And yet...downtown has a viable art scene. I see plenty of commerce. I am there often. The best mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at is there. Are there problems? Yep...but I felt a hella lot safer walking around Grants Pass than I would feel strolling through the Promenade...

Homeless are hanging out on the sidewalks in front of businesses where Subway is located on Athens. There were four of them last week when I had an 8 am appointment.

Actually Guess, the SUV's get better mileage than a Crown Victoria...which is no longer made...and a fully equipped officer can get out of the Explorer FASTER in an emergency...and there is room for the extra equipment they have to carry around.

Many of the older automatic sprinkler systems do not have calendars, makes it difficult to water only on certain days. Record Searchlight did an article on it in one of the week end papers.

Good points on the SUV Bob, all true, plus it is all put out for bid and they get good deals on the vehicles.

Another plus is that the officer is sitting up higher, they can see over many fences, and other vehicles

An officer carries about 30 pounds of equipment these days and it's a lot easier to slide DOWN out of a vehicle than to climb UP out of one.
