Sungold:
Good Morning, audio was stubborn this morning
Sungold:
Heart patients who have had surgery have been told for a very long time NOT to eat pressed meats...which is the deli style meats. They have too many chemicals in them. We only buy them when we are having company because so many folks still eat them in sandwiches all the time.
Sungold:
Kent's Meats makes their own bacon, some of it is made without all the chemicals. Had their JalepeƱo bacon on BLT's last night, very good!
ProducerBadBob:
There is uncured ham and nitrite-free bacon available at Kents and Trader Joes among others.
ProducerBadBob:
Even Costco has those.
ProducerBadBob:
If you oven cook the bacon rather than pan fry it, a lot less of the bad stuff.
Sungold:
I never pan fry bacon, hate the mess on my stove. Do it in microwave in special container, is that bad?
ProducerBadBob:
Nope, it's just heating it from the inside rather than the outside...same result.
Sungold:
We do it outside on the side burner of the grill too.
ProducerBadBob:
I've heard silly people talk about lingering microwave radiation ... uhm...ignorance...
Sungold:
A fellow at the Farmer's Market who is into health told me if you look at the microwave everyday when it is on, it will give you cataracts.
ProducerBadBob:
Only if the door seal is bad.
Sungold:
I've heard for years not to stand in front of the microwave when it is on, it has stuck with me and I always move off to the side.
Sungold:
I do not see any seal on my door, it is metal up against metal.
Sungold:
Ours is a small one, mainly we heat up leftovers or defrost, which they do beautifully now.
ProducerBadBob:
hmmm...usually there's an overlap...the whole idea is to have a space smaller than the width of the radio waves. at 2.4GHZ, by the way the same frequency as cordless phones and wi-fi signals...that's about 1/16"
Sungold:
BB. you are a living encyclopedia.
ProducerBadBob:
if the opening is smaller than the wavelength it might as well be a solid wall.
ProducerBadBob:
I just read abundantly...*laughs*
Sungold:
Yes there is an overlap
Sungold:
Hummm, you read about width of radio waves, AMAZING!
ProducerBadBob:
If you look at the window, it's more like a perforated metal screen.
ProducerBadBob:
actually I just double checked...the wavelength is actually 12.4cm..that's 4 INCHES...my error...the point being that unless the door is not THERE...leakage is pretty minimal.
ProducerBadBob:
there can be some scatter from the oven, but it's usually not from the cooking cavity.
ProducerBadBob:
I tell people who are freaked out by the idea of "deadly radiation" coming off their Smart Meters. (sighs deeply) All they need to do is put a metal cookie sheet on the wall behind it, ground it and boom...Deflector Shields Up Captain...
Sungold:
Yes, our microwave has that perforated metal screen look.
ProducerBadBob:
Would it be a good idea to stand there day after day and stare into the screen...eh...probably not...but then again its a bad practice to stare at the sun and it's been up there for a long long time... =)
Sungold:
Only thing I know about our Smart Meter is that a large tropical plant died back several months after it was installed. It sits right in front of the meter, we cut the dead stuff off, it grows again and dies back. Continues come and go die growth.
ProducerBadBob:
hmmmm the thing is...the meter does NOT emit continiously. but...if you are convinced of a causal relationship, not gonna change your mind. =)
Sungold:
So BB, in your professional opinion, are we getting a downpour tomorrow or just a shower? I hear folks talking about getting flood insurance for this coming winter season.
ProducerBadBob:
the upcoming storm Wednesday isn't real wet. Sunday looks a lot wetter. 1/2" or more
Sungold:
I'm not convinced of anything, I simply find it curious and actually want to replace the plant.
Sungold:
This one used to hide the meter while still allowing the gas guy to read it. Now they do not have to be on site to read the meter

ProducerBadBob:
If I still had the RF Field Meter stuff from back in the day i'd be interested in taking a measurement. It takes a LOT of RF heating in an open space to damage a plant. Consider your microwave puts out 1000Watts....the transmitter in the smart meter puts out may
ProducerBadBob:
well here's the answer:
ProducerBadBob:
A) Sometimes. When a smart meter contains an RF transmitter: The frequency of operation is typically in the 902 MHz and 2.4 GHz bands. Power output is typically 1 watt in the 902 MHz band and much less in the 2.4 GHz band.
ProducerBadBob:
same as a cellphone...and infrequent.
ProducerBadBob:
That's lifted from the American Radio Relay League site, a Ham radio site.
Sungold:
Good information to store in my file of stuff one needs to know. I could really impress my techie son.
