ljs: you get a huge tax break when you gift your rights to a land trust because you are giving away some of the value of your property
ljs: also you give away some of your privacy, because the land trust requires inspections to insure that your are following the contract provisions
ljs: I wish that BLM would gift some federal property to the management of land trusts.

Dave: For Mr. Benda: Calpers badly underperformed the S&P 500 this year. The worst is yet to come. Calpers loaded up on oil and gas stocks when oil fell from $100 to 80. Now it is 35. Shasta county and Redding, plus taxpayers will have to make up for those losses and underperformance.
Dave: The S&P is negative for the year. California gets 10% of tax receipts from capital gains. When the numbers come in next April, it could be ugly. CA has not had a negative stock market year since it shifted so much of the tax burden onto the stock market investors.
: Hey BB...test
Dave: I predict Gannett will sell the Redding newspaper to McClatchy. The Redding Bee has a nice ring to it. It would give better coverage of statewide issues.
ProducerBadBob: Your name is not visible, but your messages are, Maria

Sungold: We kove Dave Benda's articles. Actually buy the Sunday paper to read his info.
Sungold: love
Sungold: Anything would be an improvement for the RS...it needs help
Jarhead: no...they do nothing...
Dave: The future of newspapers is consolidation.

Betty: I don't believe that. Businesses ARE trying to get in here.
Betty: Ask Costco.
Jarhead: none of them business people....kristin..sits on boards and gets paid by the public till, francie worked for the city, missy...well ...missy she worked at stuff....lol
Betty: Jarhead is right!
Betty: I'm guessing Weaver has been bought off somewhere.
Betty: Weaver should've been all over Oasis Road.
Betty: No....building permit is NOTHING more than a sign. Its just pressure on the developer and taking away pressure from the city to perform.
Jarhead: if you were looking for a group of people that would be supportive of the public union for city employees and city managers...we got it...
ProducerBadBob: The City, County and State all seem to have this habit of seeing how much money they can squeeze out of any business entity without actually killing the deal...sadly they overestimate just how much of this legal extortion they can get away with and throttle the chicken trying to increase egg product
Betty: The agreement between Costco and developer puts all the pressure on developer. City is standing back wanting the developer to fail.
Betty: The city should not be sitting on their hands WAITING.
Jarhead: each of the council members has one other member to discuss things with... brent's is Kristin....thats all that needs to be said about that
Betty: City officials talk out both sides of their mouths. Publicly they talk big on Oasis, but behind closed doors they are trying to destroy developer. How does that work for city citizens?
Sungold: Why would the COR want to destroy the developer?
SYSTEM: Please welcome Betty who just joined the chat.
ProducerBadBob: The intent is not to destroy...it's to extort and bureaucratic greed is blind.
Jarhead: Betty...we need to ask ourselves why they are creating headwinds for growth projects....what other plans are in place that this project may hurt
Betty: That's a question to be answered in public, Sun.
Betty: I think the Oasis issue goes way back to a personal fight between Levinsen and Mike Warren.
Jarhead: Bob is 100% right....they control the gate to getting into business within this municipality and they want every cent they can squeeze....
Betty: Warren still pulls many strings in this town.
Sungold: This is a public chat room, is it not. I don't understand why the City would want to do that
Betty: Yes, Bob. Ask Starman to come on the radio please.
Dave: A republican win next November would be bad for CA. The deduction for state taxes would disappear. Why should low tax states subsidize California? The combination of a negative stock market, CA on the edge of recession might make the price lower for Oasis. Costco would be wise to wait for a lowe
Jarhead: Betty, I think Mike Warren and Mcconnel may have plans similar to what the oasis project is trying to offer...
Sungold: Speaking of the lake, BB, what are those who control it still releasing so much water, when we are having rain?
Betty: The permit for Oasis has millions of dollars of mitigation work that they all want someone else to pay for. Where's the city in assisting to save their budget woes?
Betty: Jarhead - you bring up another big player - McConnell. They control waaaaay too much of our city, too.
Dave: Costco would be wise to wait for a lower price. Redding may be willing to cut permit fees for Oasis in the next recession, which is very likely to happen in the next few years. The last recession started in Dec 2007 and we are due, especially in California.
Jarhead: and most of what they control are the elected and appointed officials that vote on these projects
Jarhead: warren was a city manager...who thinks starman will be offered a job at mcconnell when he retires
Betty: Dave - the city needs to protect its revenue stream by keeping Costco within city limits. Or Paoletti will be laying OFF officers. Again, how does that help city citizens?
Dave: Walmart worked for Anderson, not the tax.
Betty: Jarhead - again you're right. McConnell will take care of their boys, Warren and Starman.
Jarhead: costco would be a game changer for Anderson
Betty: Anderson would LOVE to have Costco.
Jarhead: sales tax initiative will fail
Betty: Too many people in Redding want someone else to pay for their problems.
Dave: Has Costco actually paid for the permits? Is it refundable?
Jarhead: no trust..... if they make it specific...it will require 66%
Betty: Costco has applied for a permit on land they don't even own.
Betty: Read that again, please. Costco does not own that land.
Jarhead: and NO...the fiscal emergency did not get passed....
Betty: The building permit was a ruse.
Dave: If Costco does not own the land, that could be a bargaining ploy to get an even better deal for a site in business friendly Anderson.
Jarhead: fiscal emergency requires 5 of 5 votes of the council...
Jarhead: how do we pay for things....cut the cost of city employees....especially city managers
Jarhead: look at the trend of increased cost of city labor force and the increased % of our overall budget
Dave: Redding needs a campaign to inform welfare cases that they get a better deal in Butte County.
Betty: Yes, Dave. Redding has become too liberal to sustain itself. Not in a good position with the lack of leadership in Redding.
Jarhead: perfect point Dave and Betty.... we are taking our leadership from liberal at heart policy makers and we do not have the revenue to afford it and be sustainable
Betty: Redding is in serious trouble.
Jarhead: lol...good answers
