Jarhead:
Angel, he seems like one of the only guys left that is still part of the two party system ...could we trust this guy or is he the GOP candidate ?
ProducerBadBob:
Good Morning
Pam:
Question for guest - How responsible is it to flirt with the possibility of Coscto leaving our tax base?
Pam:
Or - How IRRESPONSIBLE is it?
Pam:
Isn't this just more of the on-going City of Redding style of being against business? Redding has never been known for being business friendly.
Pam:
Looking back at all the redevelopment money that went to other places, why wasn't redevelopment money put to good use at Oasis to boost that project?
Jarhead:
when you have a history of squeezing every dollar out of developers...you can't come back later and claim you are one of the good guys and require the benefit of the doubt from locals..
Angel:
I wacted to meet him, I wanted to decide btw Rubio & Cruz, I was impressed, has a sense of humor, discussed the Vets in great lenght, wants Vets to have the medical and access to any doctor any hospital. He talked about Law Enforcement and the disgraceful way they are treated, over an hour on lots
Angel:
Of topics but he was very presidential
Jarhead:
they have had years to make improvements to Oasis..
Pam:
Don't forget those people in Churn Creek Bottom who fought so hard against development. That will sure not be a cake walk there.
Jarhead:
thanx Angel...he is a big question mark for me
Jarhead:
I have to believe costco is looking for a city and location that is amiable and receptive to the jobs and tax revenues they generate
Angel:
A lot of folk were undecided, when we talked to them in line and when we left, he changed minds
ProducerBadBob:
There are a significant number of Well Off People With Influence who live in Gold Hills who want this whole project to just Go Away.
Pam:
Does Mike Warren fit in here somewhere? He lives nearby Oasis. Could he be steering the city against the developer?
ProducerBadBob:
pure speculation I don't have that information at hand.
Jarhead:
yeah...people in Gold Hills who I golf with celebrated when the project was called off
Pam:
Its probably in Churn Creek Bottom - - that would be a bad idea.
Angel:
Commercial deals are squirrely, I have had many cancel at the end
Jarhead:
they were not on the roofs dancing like the 9/11 deal....but...they were happy....lol
Pam:
Is the city planning to build sewer to Knighton Road?
Jarhead:
is Kurt going to work for Mconnell when he retires from the city ? like others have done
ProducerBadBob:
605-4567...KCNR=Talk Radio and Listener participation is a good thing =)
Pam:
He didn't answer the question.
Pam:
If the city worked as well with Oasis developer as they are with Bethel, Costco would be happy and selling lots of gas by now!!
Angel:
Lots of mitigation at the site, lots of water lays out there
Pam:
City staff pick and choose who wins and who loses. They have determined that Bethel wins and Levenson loses. Obvious.

Good morning Sun
Sungold:
Good Morning...I've been glued to the radio, interesting discussion
Angel:
It is!
Sungold:
Pam, I do not believe it is city staff (workers) who choose who wins and who loses. It is much deeper than that
ProducerBadBob:
I honestly don't think Doctor Evil has a secret base under City Hall...This machine has a LOT of moving parts, I don't think they are THAT organized. there's a fair amount of self-interest at work, but not a conspiracy that I can see.
Angel:
Negotiations are just that, Levinson owns the property and can choose to change the deal and the City can choose to say no!
Sungold:
I am retired from the City of Redding and having sat in on a few meetings and listened to large projects being discussed, it is very complicated. Everyone is looking out for themselves, as it should be
Sungold:
City has obligations and don't forget, they all live, work and play in Redding too
Angel:
I wonder if Jamie will fix the sewer problems at the site
ProducerBadBob:
Then again, my stated skepticism has had me declared to be a "Gullible Sheeple" after all.
Angel:
Lol spaghetti won't taste good!
Angel:
Lol Bad Bob, that really got to you!
ProducerBadBob:
I found it ironic and amusing, actually.
Angel:
I love the sheeple at KCNR
Pam:
Sun - do you think Mike Warren still has fingers on staff?
Pam:
I just look at city council members and see them doing whatever Starman says, they never challenge him.
Sungold:
Staff at City Hall?
ProducerBadBob:
SO that would make Kurt..."Mini-Me"?
Angel:
First off, he worked there and has relationships with people of course
Angel:
I actually like him
Pam:
It just seems crazy that the city can't get a project accomplished after 11 years. It can't ALL be the developer's fault.
Angel:
Have you met Mike, nice guy
Sungold:
Mike Warren was an OK City Manager, when he can on board, he got rid of a lot of fluff and non-producers, also
Pam:
Sure - they are both nice guys.
Sungold:
he consolidated several divisions, and organized departments
Pam:
But Mike lives by the intersection that has been stalled for over a decade. Certianly he's weighing in somewhere.
Sungold:
I'm sure he does
Angel:
If you are not part of the negotiations it is tough to call who is the problem but I think Kurt is being up front
Pam:
Not wanting a big Costco in your neighborhood doesn't make him a bad person.
ProducerBadBob:
Pam, with all respect, it's really easy to find a highly visible point source to blame for all the ills of a community or country but it's rarely that simple.
Angel:
I don't believe that at all, it's Kurt's shop
Sungold:
I don't think that site would impact Tierra Oaks that much or Gold Hills.
SYSTEM:
Please welcome drmaria who just joined the chat.
Pam:
I'm anxious to hear from other people on this whole Oasis fiasco or failure.
Sungold:
Most traffic will be coming off I-5 into Costco and leaving the same way
Angel:
Some people always want to drag McConnel, Warren and others into these topics and it iscrazy
Sungold:
Exactly!
Angel:
There Y a go
Pam:
But everyone from Tierra Oaks will have to drive through all that mess like we have at Dana now.
ProducerBadBob:
It's simple to find a focal point to blame for all bad things...but I maintain that it's rarely as simple as all that.
Sungold:
That Dana area has a poor design, IMHO. It is confusing
Angel:
My mom has a place right there and as far as I know they are excited, actually looking forward to the gas station
Pam:
I want our city safe and clean with a robust business climate. We can't have that by turning business away or making developers angry or financially broke.
Angel:
It is a business deal, everyone wants to win
Sungold:
Along with than, the developers can't force the taxpayers to pay for all the improvements at the site
Angel:
You have to find the win win and sometimes it's not easy
SYSTEM:
Please welcome Pam who just joined the chat.
Angel:
Taxpayers in this city will not go for it
Pam:
But how does Redding win if Costco moves away?
Sungold:
Well, I have to run, early appointment... too bad Kurt had to leave
Sungold:
Costco is also looking at a site near me, Bechelli and Churn Creek, and I would love to have them there.
Angel:
They won't move away, they are in business, they will do what works for them
Sungold:
Property owner just clearned 13 tons of rubbish from the homeless and they did it for a reason
Sungold:
Site has i-5 acess and is right across from the Blue Shield bldg
Angel:
Maybe Sun
Sungold:
Time will tell, right?
Angel:
Yes it will
Pam:
Heard Costco put in a lowball offer on that 19 ac across from Blue Shield.
Pam:
Huge traffic issues there though.
Angel:
Good for them, hope it works out
Sungold:
Yep
Angel:
I would rather go there than Dana
Pam:
Me, too. Dana is such a mess.
Sungold:
I avoid Dana like the plague
Angel:
Plenty of room to expand the road, no eminent domain issues, no one loses their home
Angel:
Me too
Pam:
Hopefully Carl invites Walt McNeill on to hear another side of this Oasis story. And there are probably other sides. Yes, complicated issue.
Angel:
I would like to hear it
Angel:
They are complicated
Pam:
Just seems strange to me that professional planners/building guys we have on staff couldn't get Oasis off the ground in all these years. I still don't believe its all the developer's fault.
Angel:
Opportunity knocked for Levenson, I guess he likes the look
Angel:
Could be the deal was just a round peg in a square hole
Pam:
If Redding staff can't work it out with Costco at Oasis or Bonnyview, then the round peg goes elsewhere and all that revenue goes with them. What a blow to Redding's budget! Police, fire - - all hurt badly.
Angel:
Lots of hours an effort involved for this deal, too bad it couldn't get done
Angel:
It is still Redding there
Pam:
As a ratepayer, I'll be furious if Redding can't make this happen. Anderson is offering the farm to lure Costco in. Redding holding tough?? Where's the sense in that?
Carl:
I don't think its over yet. Still stuff going on
Angel:
Good to know Carl
Angel:
Posturing!
Pam:
I hope so, Carl. Thanks for having Kurt on this morning. Appreciate your radio program so people can hear directly from those in power.
Pam:
gotta run. bye

TC
Angel:
Good questions Pam
Angel:
Take dare
Angel:
Take care
ProducerBadBob:
I did not intend to be adversarial just am convinced that it's too easy to blame one or two people or even entities for all that's wrong.
Angel:
I agree Bad Bob, hate the blame game

drmaria:
^^I heard the AF needs Chiros....hmmmm
Carl:
What is head cheese made of?
ProducerBadBob:
Head cheese is not a dairy cheese, but a terrine or meat jelly made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig, or less commonly a sheep or cow, and often set in aspic.
ProducerBadBob:
Wikipedia !
Carl:
Sounds horrible
