Dave: The best place to try housing first in California is in the wealthy counties with a UC sociology department.

Dave: Shasta county has a warm climate, plenty of places to camp. Utah is freezing cold.

Sungold: Except that camping within the city limits is against City Code.

Dave: Housing first will provide habitat for honey oil labs, prostitution, fencing stolen goods, just like the motels we are trying to get rid of.

Dave: Carl has one thing wrong. It is illegal to operate a honey oil lab. But someone housed under housing first will get several days written notice before the property can be inspected by the owner. This is California.

Dave: There are almost no warrants issued for honey oil labs. The first we hear of them is the fire.

Dave: Housing first will be just like adding motels, where people live with vouchers. The place to try housing first is the Bay area, with the support of the governor, legislature, Sacbee, Chron, LA Tiimes.

Dave: Housing first could attract hundreds of new homeless and petty criminals to the area. It is easier to operate a honey oil lab, prostitution business, fence stolen goods, sell drugs, etc in a motel room than it is in Mercy Canyon.

Shastaminded: Housing first is worth a try on a small scale which is the present plan. I'd rather pay less tax dollars for housing than more tax dollars for the time its takes from law enforcement, the hospitals, the increase in property theft from the prison releases.

Dave: Some of the mentally ill homeless just need a public health nurse to make sure they take their anti-psychotic medicines. Why isn't public health (the people behind housing first) doing something about the mentally ill?

Dave: Housing first should be tried in the wealthy counties with the support of the governor, legislature and liberal media. Write or email your supervisor and ask them to say no to housing first here.

Dave: Shasta county is not an appropriate choice for this experiment.

Shastaminded: I think its a completely good place for us to try it. Especially since we are only talking about five in the City of Redding and five in the County. If it doesn't work, we can just live with the same crappy conditions we have now.
