Friday: I believe it is going up to 49% but currently it is at 44%
Friday: the event with the pension expert is coming in August...should be interesting
Friday: wait....did Linda just say you were on turbo charge when you are in the sleep number bed ? that would be a great marketing approach
Friday: run that new (turbo charge) ad on the AARP web site...it would blow up sales
Friday: a Texan and his 11 year old boy
Friday: death toll at 84
Friday: great commercial
SYSTEM: Please welcome MeganKelly who just joined the chat.
MeganKelly: AARP is big into Obama Care
MeganKelly: Just to think about AARP makes me AARP
Friday: November 12 and 13... 12th is the 8 mile and 13th is the 3 mile...
Friday: we still need a name...so we can make it official
MeganKelly: I just joined and Ihave no idea what you are referring to.
MeganKelly: Trump that
MeganKelly: She moved to California from Virginia... What kind of government does Virginia have... mostly Dem or mostly Republican?
SYSTEM: Please welcome SimonTPieman who just joined the chat.
SimonTPieman: We miss you Kara! You need to talk about cats tho!!!!
SYSTEM: Please welcome Mimi who just joined the chat.
MeganKelly: I have a rag doll cat.. Love that cat
SimonTPieman: Megan; Northern VA is dem, southern is rep. We need to become North VA and South VA. After all, there's a West VA!!
SimonTPieman: My neighbor has a rag doll- great cats! I have 5 mixed. :-)
MeganKelly: I can throw my car upside down over my shoulders with his paws sticking straight up in the air
SYSTEM: Please welcome winemakermarty who just joined the chat.
SimonTPieman: LOL
SimonTPieman: Did Kara leave?
MeganKelly: He follows me around like a shadow and waits for me to get home.
Carl: Yes--Julie Winters on now.
SimonTPieman: OK, I'll email her then. Thanks.
Mimi: Welcome winemakermarty!
MeganKelly: I have a dog too. It was supposed to be a border collie but some sort of big dog got to the mother. Lover her anyway
MeganKelly: with Friday we should also have RobinsonCruso
winemakermarty: Carl & Linda - you are the best! Julie, loved your recent editorial because you invest in what you care about. But if you could snap your fingers and change three things in our city that would affect our economic issues, what would they be, and how would things look different afterwards?
SYSTEM: Please welcome IP_Freely who just joined the chat.
SYSTEM: Please welcome RangerRick who just joined the chat.
Friday: unfunded pension ? how does Julie propose to solve it
Friday: good question Marty
IP_Freely: Do you agree with Schrader creating a parallel mental health program to the county's?
winemakermarty: Thanks, Friday - we need a vision of what we want to be and what we want to achieve. without vision we'll just wander around "doing stuff"
Mimi: Yes we DO need to believe things could be different. So glad to hear her refreshing attitudes. Yes on vision.
Friday: they were elected because they said they had a plan... now all we have seen is meetings and a study
Mimi: Yes! Those impact fees are killing the businesses who would like to come to Redding.
IP_Freely: Personally, I think the citizens in Redding don't pay attention to who the candidates are, they just see the signs on the corners and guess.
Friday: a bigger pie...great statement... our tax revenue is stale or moving lower and our general budget % for other than employee pay and pension..is shrinking every year...roads and maintenance are in great need and no money to get it done
Mimi: I disagree IP_Freely. The folks I know are VERY interested. I think things have changed and Redding sees they may not make a difference on the national level but they can locally. That is exciting for me. As a 61 year old woman, two years ago for the first time, I felt my vote made a difference in R
winemakermarty: Love the laser focus on "What is your department doing to create jobs?" laser focus is a necessity!
Friday: our parks and rec leader pushed to hire 'water police' but then made the statement that the city did not have the budget to fix their own sprinklers and change scheduling to fit within the scheduled days...but they had enough to hire water police ?
IP_Freely: In the last election we wanted a councel that would cut costs because we have some big financial problems looming like unfunded liabilities. We had 2 cutters and 3 spenders before the election. Now we have 4 spenders ond one cutter.
IP_Freely: Schrader wants some of the tax increase for her project.
winemakermarty: Friday - that's just bad leadership and a lack of "incentives" to get our city workers to change their ways. That's something I'd love to see the City Council do - hold our city workers accountable...
Friday: IP...we have the 800 pound Gorilla that no one wants to discuss...you mentioned it...unfunded pensions... and our leaders all assume the sales tax will pass and that is the only solutions they are talking about currently they should be discussing what if it doesn't pass
Friday: agree Marty
IP_Freely: It's simple to create more jobs... just lower taxes and permit costs.
IP_Freely: electricity flows in the path of less resistance
winemakermarty: IP - you're right. But we have to change the culture of the city workers. We should incentive them to "enable" new businesses, instead of incenting them to "nitpick" businesses to death.
IP_Freely: right on LittleOlWino
Friday: lol
Mimi: If anyone questions what Julie is capable of doing, just one look at the Civic is a great example of what she can do. She was the driving force there.
Friday: Carl, can you ask Julie if there is any possible solution to the unfunded pension issue ? we want our city employees to know that we are working on it
IP_Freely: We get to pick two members, I sure want to keep Gary because he wants to cut costs for business. The more business the better the tax revenue.
Mimi: YES! Preparing for the 2020 riverfront needs addressing now.
Mimi: Yes LInda #newredding
Friday: leases are already moving in the right direction... they are not renewing any... but the impact studies need to begin now...they will take 4 or 5 years
winemakermarty: Julie - what is your opinion on cutting the costs of starting businesses here in Redding?
Mimi: YES, Carl! The Venture Hub is making a huge difference.
IP_Freely: What does Winter think of the electric advisory board being dismantaled?
Friday: Carl, can you ask Julie if there is any possible solution to the unfunded pension issue ? we want our city employees to know that we are working on it and that it is being considered in ALL decisions
Mimi: YES on the Vice Squad.
Friday: does Julie believe that new hires would exacerbate the unfunded pension issue
Friday: leasing city property being used by the homeless for 1 dollar a year so that the RPD can chase them out
Mimi: It makes me nervous to have elderly people in squad cars driving around. This guy could be a great CSO. He doesn't really want to be a part of the solution or he would contact Julie.
IP_Freely: I think we need to use our retired officers and volunteers because we're being swamped with released felons
winemakermarty: Friday - nobody that I know who is hired relies on pensions anymore. I thin the world has moved on. We have to prepare for our own retirements - that's what any employee in the private sector has to do. But, this isn't my show!!! LOL
Friday: we have thousands of qualified veterans and ccw instructors and retired law enforcement that could easily be leveraged to give us solid volunteer groups
winemakermarty: IP - I agree! these men and women are highly trained and highly motivated. All hands on deck!!!
winemakermarty: Friday - agree 100% And they're highly motivated!!!
SYSTEM: Please welcome buzz who just joined the chat.
IP_Freely: Our city workers are rich... I can't believe the deal that they get on their pensions. They are way better off than the citizens paying for their pensions.
SYSTEM: Please welcome 4everloved who just joined the chat.
Friday: 100% Marty...but we have to move away from the unions somehow....the pensions are pricing them out of the employee market... outsourcing could do it much cheaper and we would have more in the budget to get projects done that have been waiting for years
SYSTEM: Please welcome freedomlover who just joined the chat.
Friday: marty, have you seen the unfunded pension schedule that CalPers has for the city of Redding....looks progressively ugly for the next 20 years
IP_Freely: I think there should be no unions in government. We can pay them enough to save with a trust, but we need to be able to downsize government and this pension union thing strings us into a bondage
freedomlover: I'd like to hear HOW Julie plans to reduce the unemployment rate and increase the median income in Redding.
Friday: can we convince the current city council that they are required to play pokemon in Sac....for the next year or two
Friday: agree IP
buzz: So the 200000dollars we spent for a law inforcement anaylsis was wrong????? government helps create jobs????? c
buzz: Wow!!!!
Friday: Julie...we have heard that we shouldn't "hold council members to those silly shallow campaign promises" can we hold you to yours ?
buzz: LOL
Mimi: YES! JOBS! Thank goodness for all the Shasta Venture Hub is doing.
Friday: we have less than 32 % for the city after employee pay and pension is paid...and it is 'shrinking'
freedomlover: How does she plan to Grow Our Economy?
Mimi: Yes our City Building Dept would be GREAT if they were more of a healthy soil for businesses.
4everloved: Look at oklahoma city and what they built in relation to our beautiful city. They make it look amazinng and is used for several water sports. There are hubs and resturants right by the water. Its worth looking into.
RangerRick: How about businesses closing at Cypress Square?
freedomlover: We have so many treasures in Redding, if Julie was elected how would she leverage the amazing assets Redding does have?
winemakermarty: City Impact Fees should be paid back to the city based on the quarterly revenue of the business, not as a single up front fee that cripples the ability of the business to survive. Pay for performance, not penalize out of existence!
winemakermarty: IP - you're right!
IP_Freely: rightON LittleOlWino
Mimi: Yep, no bullying of anyone. Let's partner! Yay Julie! You are a bridge to these two groups.
winemakermarty: gotta sign off... will be listening online...
SYSTEM: winemakermarty just signed off.
freedomlover: Yeah, the river front is beautiful...what can we do about that
freedomlover: Love the business friendly, job building approach to evaluating city departments!
IP_Freely: What does Winter think of Sacramento?
Friday: Julie, what about outsourcing parts of our current city departments...the unions have done a great job for employees but not the city budget...
Friday: Outsourcing !!!
RangerRick: Problems with the Airports too. City re directing FAA funds for the local Airports ???
RangerRick: From the airports
IP_Freely: I bet what happens is that we will elect the spenders
freedomlover: What kind of businesses could we bring to Redding? Besides manufacturing; we've tried that and it hasn't worked.
Friday: the REU lawsuit should get a decision soon... that is another 6 million+ that will need to go back to REU....this budget needs attention
RangerRick: What is the rush in making Redding the next Los Angeles?
IP_Freely: Our real problem is the state government. We need a border for the state of Jefferson. Then we can create a new economy.
Friday: freedom...3M wanted to come in...and we pushed them away...we have a terrible reputation almost nation wide
Mimi: Yes, high tech is one fabulous avenue to progress and jobs.
buzz: Wow she is really drinking the kool aid.... I know lets have a water slide on Placer Street!!
buzz: How about a BBQ
Friday: great idea Buzz..maybe you could work with our parks and rec leader to make that happen
Mimi: If increasing jobs and making Redding is drinking the kool aid, I'll take some.
Friday: Buzz... a car wash...yard sale...maybe a lemonade stand
IP_Freely: What doe Winter think of creating a new event call "The Druggie Derby" where we send the AB109ers down the river?
Friday: who is Julie's campaign manager ? anybody know ? Mimi ?
Mimi: No I am not. Forgive me for thinking this chat room was open to all.
Friday: IP....I'm telling you...that idea is going to be big....ESPN hasn't called back yet...but I am waiting by the phone
buzz: Increasing jobs is good Mimi. Government does not do that....
Friday: Mimi...didn't mean that in a bad way...just wondering about alignments...Julie seems like sshe has some great ideas and will be reaching out to her or campaign manager to sit down and talk..just wanted to know who
IP_Freely: Business needs customers. So if you want more tax revenue, costs to citizens have to go down.
Mimi: Might want to check her website. It should be mentioned there.
Friday: will just go to her website...just thought someone may know who and if I knew them would reach out to them directly
buzz: Unfunded Liability for Redding is $270, 000,000 that is of 2014.
Mimi: Good question young entrepreneur . So thankful more young folks are dedicated to Redding and wanting to make their city better.
Friday: buzz...and that is with a projection each year of 7.5% ....project at 5.5% and that number moves to over 450 million
Friday: if only the current council thought that Julie
IP_Freely: Lets don't pick businesses. That is not government's job. Some businesses take off later. So you have to listen to all.
buzz: Sooooo whos on the hook for that? Oh by the way cal pers is not getting 4% ...Soooo whos on the hook?
Friday: 'Ginsburg' Sullivan will never vote for moving the comments on the agenda
IP_Freely: Francie is a ruler not a public servant
Friday: Buzz...you know who is on the hook...lol
Friday: Francie should have already stepped down
RangerRick: Agreed
IP_Freely: RightON
buzz: Weaver would say "this a shallow campaign promise"....
IP_Freely: Schrader want's some of that tax money
Friday: but we have been told " you can't hold us to those silly shallow campaign promises" can we hold you to yours ???
IP_Freely: Cadd is the only adult on our council. I bet the idiots vote him out.
Mimi: Wow! This is turning strangely sad. Any of the CC members are giving a lot of themselves for little $. They are better people than I.
Mimi: YES! Enough talk! Let's get out there and DO!
Friday: CC members ?
Mimi: City Council
SYSTEM: Please welcome Sungold who just joined the chat.
IP_Freely: Cadd is usually the only vote to keep costs down.
buzz: They only have to follow Starmans advice.....
Friday: Mimi...but if they lie or deceive...that is not needed
