onion_grower: Yesterday, the newspaper sponsored a one hour chat on facebook. Gary and Linda Cadd talked against measure D for an hour.
onion_grower: At about 15-20% of the way through, Gary gave a lot of figures on Redding sales tax receipts. The most important was that receipts were down 1.8 million for the year.
SYSTEM: Please welcome Sungold who just joined the chat.
onion_grower: Sales tax receipts are the most important indicator for the Redding economy. As Redding gets older, poorer and sicker, people spend less.
Sungold: So, what does that tell us? Are you suggesting that they put the tax for vote out to us so they could add more money to the general fund?
onion_grower: While the numbers tell us the Redding economy is contracting, just like the economy of Eureka, Chico, Yuba City and everyplace in between, Carson City reports another month where sales tax receipts are up over 10%.
onion_grower: Gary Cadd's talk is on the R-S facebook page. There will be another one today by someone pro measure D.
onion_grower: Lots of good stuff on the Redding Crime facebook. One discussion was about the city of Redding paying out $300,000 on an out of court settlment because of an RPD officer who abused a citizen. The officer now works security on the East Coast.
onion_grower: I wish Redding would disclose how much it has paid out over the last five years in out of court settlments due to RPD.
ProducerBadBob: I think OG is really a shill for the Reno/Carson Chamber of Commerce...
ProducerBadBob: Speaking of which...the Bass Pro Shops is buying up Cabella's you KNOW there's going to be a bunch of consolidation and lots more added to the unemployment roles.

onion_grower: The success of Reno Carson Sparks shows how capitalism works. California was once a world center of capitalism which produced the investment near Stanford University.
Ticktock: I have a question for Mrs. Rickert. With the increasing pressures of a rising homeless population, would she fully support Kristen Schreder's work to bring a meaningful plan to reduce homelessness or would she just be content with the watered down effort crafted by the City of Redding and the Count
onion_grower: Capitalism has a bright future in N. Nevada, Soft core corruption like you see in California can't compete.
Ticktock: *County
onion_grower: I hope Eureka, Oroville, Marysville, Yuba city, Stockton etc. adopt Homeless first to attract say 500 heroin addicts and meth addicts from Shasta County.
onion_grower: 500 addicts moving away to those compassionate liberal cities would turn Redding back to what it was 12 years ago, a good place to invest, retire or raise children.
ProducerBadBob: Regarding the closure of Savory Spoon. One of the reasons given: Unable to find "good" employees. SERIOUSLY? wow. We still pay people better to be parasites than to get an honest job apparently.
ProducerBadBob: I don't think the $15/hr wage is gonna fix this somehow.
onion_grower: I hope the candidate will disclose current numbers for county sales tax receipts, like Mr. Cadd does for the city. Concealing the numbers is good for Kurt Starman, city and county staff and the unions.
ProducerBadBob: All that will happen then is that a Six Dollar burger will set you back $12.95.
ProducerBadBob: Oh...and the State and Local folks collect LOTS more tax, but Goods and Services will cost so much more that it will be a loss equation.
onion_grower: The big lie that the homeless advocates tell is that they are local. Is Gary Cadd local? Carl Bott? Me? We've been here more than 5 years, but that does not make us local. A better definition of local is where they attended high school. The welfare cases flooding into Shasta county dropped out
ProducerBadBob: Shasta High Class of 1974
Sungold: Been here since 1963 and four years prior to that came over all the time to ski Shasta Lake and Mount Shasta in winter!
Sungold: We have been in businesses here since 1963 and we consider ourselves locals!
ProducerBadBob: Born in Mercy Hospital on the hill. Guess that qualifies me as a Local :-D
onion_grower: When you compare Redding with its competition in Chico, Eureka, Oroville, Yuba, Marysville, Stockton, the one thing in Reddings favor is that gangs are worse or much worse in the competition.
onion_grower: The gangs are a big reason the addicts are here.
onion_grower: Addicts come here because the gangs steal their drugs, money, fake ID en punto de cuchillo.
Sungold: We need a resource center? So where are the homeless sourcing their cell phone, bikes, dogs, coats, jackets, bed rolls, carts, back packs?
onion_grower: It is highly unlikely that any money from D will go for the jail. It would probably take ten years to open one. It is asking for a lawsuit, and like the PILOT lawsuit drags on for years and years, it is a cool trick to block any funds going from Redding to the County.
onion_grower: One of Gary Cadd's good ideas is privatizing the planning department. You can't change the culture of the city or county permit people. Put them to work on marijuana enforcement where they will treat the commercial pot growers as badly as someone who wants to make a legitimate investment in the co
