onion_grower: Gannett is close to wrapping up the deal to buy Tronc, publisher of LA Times,
onion_grower: Tronc publishes Baltimore Sun and Chicago Sun Times. Gannett wants the digital advertising from getting much larger. Gannett stock chart this year pretty awful.
onion_grower: Could Gannett sell its least profitable papers to pay for Tronc?

onion_grower: RS had facebook chat yesterday with Brent Weaver arguing for D. The paper will announce its endorsement on Sunday. From the questions the editorial board asked Weaver, they telegraphed that they are endorsing D.
onion_grower: Please tell Trish that on Old Oregon and Oasis, 100% of campaign signs are on county owned right of way. Not a single one on private property. The county has a right to remove signs from its property but does not.
KneelerFired: contractors and outsourcing VS. fulltime workers that require taxpayers to pay pensions
onion_grower: The contractors know what it's like to deal with Redding Planning department, possibly the single worst thing about the Redding business climate.
onion_grower: The culture of Reddings planning department cannot be changed. Cadd is right, Redding should contract out permitting and planning to people from the private sector who know what it is like to try and build in Redding.

Sungold: Good Morning
Sungold: Redding Planning Dept is sick.....always has been. I do not think those people who work there even like their jobs
Sungold: Trish is right. The city of Anderson is amazing. Good example of a city who still cares about what they are doing and care about their populace
KneelerFired: planning department fails to understand who pays them
Sungold: I'm not sure what they don't or do understand. They are certainly a puzzlement to the business people in this commuinity
Sungold: How many years has the community complained, the start ups complained, people trying to build, or expand complained and it all remains the same
onion_grower: You can't change the culture of City of Redding, the VA, the autoworkers. The unions protect the worst. They have no incentive to change and every incentive to keep things the way they are.
SYSTEM: KneelerFired just signed off.
Sungold: I do not believe it can't be changed. I believe it can ....the people here just do not have the guts to do it.
onion_grower: It is very likely that Redding will go into bankruptcy in the next ten years, probably in the next recession. Redding's only liquid asset for the bankruptcy court to sell is the natural gas power plants.
onion_grower: Anderson is much less likely to face bankruptcy.
onion_grower: Measure D and E means Redding will spend $11 million per year on public safety. That means more lieutanants, sergeants, corporals and a raise for the highest paid RPD.
Sungold: Where are you getting these facts? I have not been able to find this information you are putting on here.
onion_grower: Measure D and E will make the Redding pension time bomb worse. Anderson did not choose to spend its public safety money making the department top heavy. The unions run RPD. Unions are run by people with a lot of seniority for the benefit of those with a lot of seniority. That means more slots at
onion_grower: A lot more slots at the top, to pad the already bloated pensions.
onion_grower: There should be a restructuring of RPD, eliminate one lieutenant, one sergeant, one corporal. I bet they add one lieutenant, one sergeant and one corporal to manage the body cameras. The unions are always looking for an excuse to do what they always do.

HootSkillet: Anderson is a city and run like one
HootSkillet: Redding is a private club and you aint in it
HootSkillet: You Cypress Square is getting turnef into a car dealership?
HootSkillet: Klasique Kafe too
HootSkillet: Anybody asking why those particular permits are flying through the process?
HootSkillet: Anderson has been business friendly, but it's mostly retail...
HootSkillet: One hell of a left hook
HootSkillet: Manufacturing and production jobs
HootSkillet: As opposed to having to climb under Starmans desk to get a business going here?
HootSkillet: Oh...so good pears
HootSkillet: Which canidate does Stan prefer to unseat?
HootSkillet: Funny though Police payroll didn't go down...just staffing
HootSkillet: No real jobs
HootSkillet: The next person that says high-speed Internet is the salvation if the North State....I swear do you people even think?
HootSkillet: How does high speed save us?
HootSkillet: That crap is about McConnell getting a node in for the Liberal Arts College coming in West Redding
ProducerBadBob': Hoot. More and more work is being done remotely, unless you believe that an architect, consultant, artist, composer or designer isn't doing "real work"
HootSkillet: Oh well, you're still better than the Searchlight
ProducerBadBob': That "real jobs
ProducerBadBob': oops
ProducerBadBob': That "Real Jobs" are just the ones that generate tangible goods.
HootSkillet: Our internet really that slow Bob?
