OK computer was being unhappy...but it seems to be OK now.
Sungold:
Our neighbor up the street living in a very quiet and tight cul de sac working in front yard, garage door open, went around the back to get a tool and a drink of water. He came back to the front to notice his men's specialized bike had been stolen. YES, someone was watching!

We need to begin the conversation that we just have the wrong people in positions of authority... Kurt and Rob should be on their way out...their only solution seems to be asking for more money...
onion_grower:
Redding did not have this large crime problem when the Botts and I moved here 12 years ago.
Sungold:
It is not unusual, has been that way for years. Blankenship used to warn about that.
onion_grower:
The Record searchlight claims that normal people were "transformed" into heroin and meth addicts and the mentally ill.
Sungold:
The AB 109 ers were not out of prison yet.
PatheticLeaders:
so Onion and the Botts are to blame....I like it...lets discuss how you guys did it and why ?
Sungold:
Our really serious isuues started with the release of the inmates.....now they have free reign over us and can steal everything right out from our retail businesses and use our front doors as their bathrooms
onion_grower:
Redding has had an influx of addicts because the gangs are so bad in the competition. I would not want to be a heroin addict living under a bridge or under a tarp in a canyon in Oroville, Marysville, Chico, Eureka, Stockton, etc.
Sungold:
When we had the "gang eradication team" that was all kept under control, now we have nothing.
onion_grower:
In those competition cities, gang related drive by shootings are common. Gang Grafiti are much more common than here. I think Redding had a single drive by shooting and that was not gang related, it was somebody taking out a witness.
onion_grower:
Heroin addicts are wise to choose Redding. The competition cities are too tough.
PatheticLeaders:
always sad when older people use labels like 'BFF' ...sad
Sungold:
Thanks goodness we still have the graffiti removal team. They respond quickly and are serious about what they do.
Sungold:
I have not heard my older friends using BFF, but I have heard a lot of younger folks using it. That is, if what you are referring to is Best Friends Forever.
PatheticLeaders:
Marty is a Trump supporter...
PatheticLeaders:
yep...me too...really stands out when we use it...seems very out of character
onion_grower:
In Oroville, Butte county seat, gang members will rob an addict at knife point. Much less likely to happen in Redding. No wonder they choose to be here.
onion_grower:
The R-S portrays the democrat stronghold cities as paradise. They do not cover Chico's horrible fiscal problems. From the Flash Report, Chico is one of the six cities the state is auditing because of fiscal fraud. Richmond in N. CA alsol.

PatheticLeaders:
surprise...surprise
onion_grower:
KRCRTV7 reports some of the bad news about Chico. Chico should be a wealthy, low crime city. It has the university. Butte county seat is Oroville which has the worst of the gangs and welfare cases.
onion_grower:
Many college towns, like Ann Arbor and State College PA are great places to live. Chico seems hopelessly broken.

We haven't had a good chief of police in Redding since Blankenship
Shastaminded:
Paoletti has managed to improve some of the information reporting systems and did manage to get his department out of the mold infested building but I don't see much else other than hand wringing about the budget.

Gannett, publisher of RS is in real trouble. 2% staff cuts.

Yes! All Saints holiday bazaar!!
LoriG:
Their bake sale is off the hook too :-)
Carl:
A weekly newspaper that prints the official notices and has the Thursday ads could be a huge problem to the RS.
Carl:
Especially if the news covers all the news.
onion_grower:
The R-S has not transitioned to the Gannett format used by A
onion_grower:
Phoenix, Reno and USA today papers. Does it mean they plan to sell it?
onion_grower:
I was in Reno last week. The RGJ includes a section of USA Today for national coverage.
PatheticLeaders:
Gannett is just pathetic...they appeal to a demographic that wants their news in other forms besides what ganett offers...the writing is on the wall...
Carl:
RS has a USA Today page--
LoriG:
The flyer says the bazaar starts at 9:00 on the church website. Is it really 8:00 am?
Carl:
At 9..Linda gets there early
PatheticLeaders:
17 days CARL...you better stay away from that candy...extra weight to carry around the course

Google cut Google Fiber. Going to bring Gigabit over the airwaves. 5G looks to make fiber obsolete. ATT is working on A
onion_grower:
ATT is working on Air Gig with transmitters on top of telephone poles instead of all that digging up utility trenches to connect with fiber.

Makes sense, Onion, going low power Wireless for "The Last Mile" allows for a scalable and upgradeable system with minimal ground and traffic impact.
ProducerBadBob:
There is the issue of bandwidth saturation, but new "whitespace" frequencies in the old UHF TV channel bands are opening up (to the highest bidders however)
ProducerBadBob:
My DSL was awful to put it mildly. I now use a provider that has a fiber connection to a mountaintop site, and then connects to my house via 900MHZ radio link. It's a solid 10Mbs connect. Not cable speed but beats DSL.
onion_grower:
Redding could use something like anewscafe for conservatives. Anewscafe blocks comments which are not liberal. Unbelievablly biased coverage of pot, housing first, homeless, etc. I doubt she is making money, probably burning through her alimony.
ProducerBadBob:
Well there you have it...who would PAY for it? Plenty of good ideas but someone has to write checks.
onion_grower:
Anewscafe has dozens of advertisers. I bet the rates are low. Bugs me that Dignity health advertises there.
